IMPORTANT LETTER TO RESIDENTS

July 28, 2015

Dear Lakeshore Residents,

This is to inform you that Clarke Environmental will be completing a copper sulfate application on Valley Lake.  The application will take place on Monday, August 3, 2015.

Residents are asked to remove all items from their shoreline including but not limited to canoes, kayaks, children’s toys, lawn décor, patio furniture etc.  If a resident leaves these items in the water and they contain snails, they will not be controlled and the snail population may return.  Prior to use, please make sure that any snails are removed from these items to insure that they are reintroduced into the lake.

Clarke will be treating under and around all piers, so these do not need to be removed.

For the success of this treatment, we ask for your full cooperation in the above request.

Please note that the lake should not be used for 24 hours following treatment. We ask that the lake not be used from Monday morning, August 3rd through Tuesday, August 4th.  This will allow the copper application to land on the snails and in the treatment zones and not get displaced by swimmers and other recreational activity.

Following treatment, please expect the water to be cloudy in the weeks following the application.  As the snails die off, they will begin to decompose and will reduce the oxygen thus causing the water to clarify to decrease.  The water clarity will only be cloudy temporarily and the appearance will improve with time.

Clarke Environmental will be conducting the treatment in a very safe manner, as they are very experienced in lakes management and procedures to treat lakes.

Should you require additional information, please contact the Wildwood Park District at 847-223-7275.

Sincerely,

Wildwood Park District
