Fourth of July Community Notice: Information for Safe Celebrations in the Parks

With the upcoming Fourth of July holiday, the Wildwood Park District would like to share some helpful information, as well as kindly remind residents and non-residents of key park rules, regulations, and ordinances. Please be aware of the following information to celebrate responsibly in the parks.

 

Helpful Information

  • There will not be any Wildwood Park District hosted or sponsored events on July 4th.
  • The Wildwood Park District office will be closed on July 4th. We encourage residents who are planning to use the parks and/or lakes on July 4th to stop in to obtain their parking sticker, boat decal, and boat ramp key prior to July 4th if you have not done so already. Regular office hours are M-F 9:30am-4:00pm.
  • There will be boat ramp monitors stationed at Pebble Beach Park and Sunset Park, as well as Park Safety staff patrolling all Wildwood Park District parks on July 4th.
  • To contact Wildwood Park District Park Safety, please call or text 847.309.1478. We encourage residents to save this number to their phones to have handy.
  • For questions or concerns pertaining to street parking, please call the Warren Township Highway Department at 847.244.1101 ext. *301, as the Wildwood Park District does not have authority over public streets.
  • The safest way to enjoy fireworks is to attend a public firework show put on by professionals. Below is a list of Lake County towns and villages who will be putting on professional firework shows on July 4th:
    • Antioch at dusk at Sequoit Creek Park (845 Main Street
      Antioch, IL 60002).
    • Buffalo Grove at 9pm at Willow Stream Park (651 Old Checker Rd., Buffalo Grove, IL 60089).
    • Gurnee Six Flags Great America at 9:15pm (1 Great America Parkway, Gurnee, IL 60031).
    • Lake Forest at dusk at Deerpath Community Park (400 Hastings Rd., Lake Forest, IL 60045).
    • Lake Zurich at 9:15pm at Paulus Park (200 S. Rand Rd., Lake Zurich, IL 60047).
    • Lincolnshire at 9:30pm at Spring Lake Park (49 Oxford Dr., Lincolnshire, IL 60069).
    • Mundelein at 9:30pm at Courtland Commons Park (400 E Courtland St., Mundelein, IL 60060).
    • Vernon Hills at 9:15pm at Century Park (1002 Lakeview Pkwy., Vernon Hills, IL 60061).
    • Waukegan at 9:30pm at Waukegan Harbor (175 N. Harbor Pl., Waukegan).
    • Zion at 9:30pm at Zion Park District Bandshell (2400 Dowie Memorial Dr., Zion, IL 60099).

 

Park Rules, Regulations, and Ordinances

  • Parks close at dusk (around 8:35pm this time of year). If you see vehicles parked at a Wildwood Park District parking lot or people in the parks after dark, we encourage you to call the Lake County Sheriff’s Office non-emergency number at 847.549.5200. For emergencies or illegal activity, please call 911 regardless of the time of day.
  • Fireworks are illegal and are not permitted in any Wildwood Park District parks, parking lots, or streets adjacent to the parks. Anyone observed using fireworks will result in an immediate call to 911 and police response.
  • Alcohol is prohibited in Wildwood Park District parks, parking lots, and beaches.
  • Outdoor cooking and grilling in the parks is only permissible by using one of the permanent Wildwood Park District park grills.
  • Pets must be leashed and under control at all times. Please clean up after your pet. Mutt mitt dispensers and trash cans are available at most parks.
