The Wildwood Park District and the Lake County Health Department have identified a mild algae bloom on Valley Lake (both North and South). Based on the past, it is expected to go away on its own, and should not be a nuisance for long.

It is recommended to not swim, minimize contact with lake water, and do not let pets play or drink from the water. Skin irritation or rash is the most commonly reported health effect from HAB exposure. Other symptoms range from diarrhea, cramps, vomiting, fainting, numbness, dizziness and tingling. The most severe reactions occur when large amounts of water are swallowed. Fish caught in affected waters pose unknown health risks and may have an undesirable taste. If you choose to eat them, remove all fat, skin, and organs before cooking, because toxins are more likely to collect in these tissues. The best way to stay safe is to stay out of the affected water and keep children and pets away. Never use the affected water for drinking, cooking, or bathing. If you are in contact with affected water, wash off thoroughly with soap and clean source of water. The beach sand itself is not affected and can be used.

We will continue to monitor the situation and keep our residents updated.

Thanks, Wildwood Park District Team

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT: UPDATE 6/24/2020:

The Wildwood Park District will officially begin enforcing towing of vehicles at the following parks who do not have a Wildwood Park District vehicle sticker or a non-resident daily park guest pass: (in the respective parking lots both trailer and regular car slots - Pebble Beach Park, Sunset Beach Park, Valley South Park, and Willow Point Park) in response to the yearly needs of our residents and the crowding of parking facilities due to fallout from COVID-19.

THE OFFICIAL START DATE OF TOWING ENFORCEMENT WILL BE THIS FRIDAY, JUNE 26, 2020 at 12:00 NOON. TOWING SIGNAGE WILL BE POSTED AT THE RESPECTIVE PARK PARKING LOTS BY FRIDAY JUNE 26 by 12:00 NOON.

Wildwood Towing is located at 18451 W Gages Lake Rd, Gages Lake, IL 60030.

Our summer office hours are as follows: M-F 9:30am-4:00pm and the 2nd and 4th Saturday of each month 9:00am-12:30pm.

Please come visit us at 33325 N. Sears Boulevard to pick up your resident vehicle stickers that are good through December 31, 2020. The best part is they are free! Our Park Security and Boat Ramp personnel will continue to also hand out resident stickers on the weekends and weekdays at each respective boat ramp and park. Please continue to provide those staff with your vehicle registration to prove residency. This sticker must securely stick on the upper right-hand side of your windshield. If you are non-resident, please be advised that you must obtain a guest temporary parking pass for each park/beach you park at. The cost for this pass is $10.00 for each park you park at. These can only be obtained at our office at 33325 N. Sears Boulevard. Please display this permit clearly on your vehicle dashboard so security staff can see it.  The Park District will still continue to give out high visibility warning flyers on cars without proper stickers/permits for first time offenders. A log will be kept, and repeat offenders are eligible for towing. Vehicles that have already received multiple warning flyers up until this point may be potentially towed. We greatly thank everyone for their cooperation, and we look forward to continuing great weather, upcoming Park District programs, and wonderful park amenities for all.
